In the carbon renewable energy sector, users need an engaging, easy-to-navigate app to track their carbon footprint, monitor renewable energy usage, and participate in community-driven sustainability challenges. However, existing solutions often lack clear guidance, accessible features, and engaging content, making it difficult for users to stay informed and motivated in their sustainability journey. To address this, the project required a user-centric UX strategy that aligned both user needs and business goals, offering a seamless experience for tracking personal environmental impact and connecting with a broader community. The solution aimed to provide intuitive information architecture, prioritize essential features, and maintain an adaptable interface that evolves with ongoing user feedback and the introduction of new content and features, ensuring long-term engagement and usability.

OUR APPROACH

To address the need for an engaging, intuitive carbon renewable energy app, our UX approach focused on a deep understanding of user behaviours and motivations around sustainability. We began with comprehensive user research, including interviews and surveys, to define user personas and key objectives that aligned with both user and business goals. From these insights, we prioritized essential features—carbon tracking, renewable energy monitoring, and community challenges—and organized them into a clear information architecture for easy access and navigation.

We developed low and high-fidelity prototypes to visualize the user journey and test functionality early on. Usability testing played a crucial role in refining features and ensuring accessibility across user levels. Post-launch, we implemented a feedback loop, tracking key metrics and gathering user insights to drive iterative improvements, keeping the app dynamic and responsive to user needs. This approach ensured a balanced, user-centred solution that effectively engages users in sustainable actions and supports long-term retention through continuously relevant and compelling content.
