The existing website for an outdoor gear retailer was not optimized for mobile users, limiting the brand’s ability to provide a smooth and immersive shopping experience for outdoor enthusiasts. The challenge was to transform the website into a mobile app that would not only capture the adventurous spirit of camping, hunting, and exploration but also provide an intuitive, mobile-first e-commerce experience. The goal was to create a seamless, engaging app that allowed users to easily browse, compare, and purchase outdoor gear while ensuring an experience that embodied the brand’s theme of adventure.

We adopted a user-centred design approach, beginning with user research to understand the behaviours, needs, and preferences of outdoor enthusiasts. We conducted surveys and in-depth interviews to identify pain points in the existing website experience and gain insights into how users engage with outdoor shopping apps. Armed with this data, we defined key user personas and mapped out their journeys to ensure the app design addressed their most important needs—easy navigation, efficient product comparison, and quick, secure purchasing.
Next, we focused on information architecture (IA), organizing the content to be easily discoverable and intuitive on mobile screens. This involved creating a simple, intuitive flow where users could easily browse gear categories, view product details, and make quick comparisons. We employed wireframing to explore layout options and iterated through multiple versions to determine the most user-friendly design. For visual design, we used the "Find Your Everest" theme, incorporating vibrant imagery and strong visual elements that reflected the spirit of outdoor adventure.
To ensure usability, we utilized prototyping to test various design concepts with real users, gathering feedback on navigation, ease of use, and visual appeal. Based on the results, we refined the designs, focusing on simplifying the e-commerce flow and streamlining the checkout process to minimize steps and friction.
